Build an outstanding Key Stage 3 Music curriculum

The new Music national curriculum aims to provide pupils with "an understanding of our rich national heritage" (DfE 2013). This presents fresh opportunities and challenges for Music teachers with an emphasis on building skills from the Primary curriculum in areas which include solo and ensemble performance, improvisation, composition in addition to developing an understanding of the history of Music.

Ben Jose is Head of Community Music and lead for Technology in the Arts at the Queen Elizabeth's School in Wimborne Minster, Dorset. He leads regular ITT and CPD training sessions which focus on areas such as behaviour management, assessment, inclusion, differentiation, planning, questioning and use of technology.
