Developing outstanding subject leaders in languages - Teacher CPD

Are you head of an MFL department or an aspiring head? Are you a teacher who wishes to develop better leadership skills or find out more about subject leadership roles?

This CPD course for teachers enables delegates to develop thinking in key areas of subject leadership. You will look at developing an ambitious shared vision for your team, team building and target setting, monitoring and intervention strategies.

The second half of the course focuses on four areas highlighted as key by Ofsted: target language use, teaching reading, extended writing in KS3 and increasing uptake at KS4.

Objectives and outcomes for the course:

By the end of the first module delegates will be updated on their leadership skills relating to sharing and developing a vision. You will have a greater understanding of how to communicate with colleagues and tackle difficult issues effectively and you will have developed your thinking on creating an effective target setting, monitoring and intervention strategy.

By the end of the second module delegates will be updated on strategies for developing use of the target language by pupils and teachers, on how best to exploit texts on-line to improve pupils’ reading skills and you will have looked at how writing tasks can be made more creative, giving pupils more opportunity to develop their extended writing skills.

You will be updated on the issues impacting on uptake in language at KS4 and will have developed your thinking on how best to address this issue in your school.
