With a greater emphasis on how schools interpret the National Curriculum and how they design their own approach, subject leads are now in a position where it is necessary to evaluate the ‘offer’ they give and how they prepare all children to make good progress and are ready for the next stages of their learning. With this year to get your curriculum ready, this course will prepare all Senior & Middle leaders to audit and evaluate their existing curriculum and teaching against the new 2019 Ofsted Framework.

According to Ofsted we can expect that ‘these changes will move Ofsted’s focus away from headline data to look instead at how schools are achieving these results, and whether they are offering a curriculum that is broad, rich and deep, or simply teaching to the test’.

Aims:

• Articulate how your curriculum meets the needs of your children and local context
• Be clear about what evidence is required, and what is not required, in order for judgements to be made.
• Ensure your curriculum is knowledge-rich and designed to maximise learning
• Explore the role of cognitive science and other research in designing an effective curriculum

Presenter Profiles

John Medlicott (@johnmedlicott) is the Director of JMC Education (www.jmcinset.com), having held a number of key academic and pastoral leadership roles in schools and colleges. John still teaches in an Ofsted Outstanding School and has taught for over 20 years. As a teacher trainer & school improvement consultant he works with schools across the UK and internationally. He is regularly graded as “outstanding” by delegates on their evaluation forms. John has spoken recently on challenge and differentiation at a National Conference for Deputy Head teachers and is a regular Keynote speaker and workshop provider in School Leadership and Teaching and Learning.

Kat Kinshaw has had a board and varied career in primary and prep education over the last 22 years. She has held the posts of Headteacher, LA Advisor, PGCE Tutor and more recently Director of Education in a Multi Academy Trust.has been a teacher in London and the South West for 23 years, the last 10 as a Headteacher. Since leading Wells Cathedral Junior School (2010-2014) Kat regularly supports IAPS speaking on Leadership, Assessment, Appraisal, Teaching & Learning and Middle Management. Her career includes Prep and State Headship, LA advisor and MAT Director of Education roles. Kat has a down to earth approach, drawing on research and theory she offers realistic and practical advice to schools on a range of subjects.
