Boosting Pupils’ literacy skills in all lessons – practical strategies for teachers of all subjects
Many staff from all subject areas report that pupils lack of literacy skills are a hindrance in their achievement in their subject whether that is tackling the G.C.S.E. PE theory paper or writing accurate extended answers for Science questions.
Promoting effective literacy skills across the curriculum is high on the agenda in schools at the present. The Teaching Standards requires that all teachers should: ’take a responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever the teacher’s specialist subject.’ However, staff have often not received pertinent, practical, and helpful training to help them achieve this.
This course ensure that attendees leave with a clear understanding of key concepts in improving literacy, and many practical strategies that they can add to their toolkit to us in their lessons.
Delegates will receive a copy of Caroline’s best-selling book ‘Literacy Across the Curriculum Teacher’s Pocketbook’ packed full of helpful tips and techniques. This will be posted to staff at school.
