Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
This course is designed for educators and support staff, aiming to foster a comprehensive understanding of emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).
Through this course, participants will delve into the theoretical underpinnings of EBSA, exploring the psychological, social, and educational factors that contribute to avoidance behaviours. By grasping these dynamics, educators will be better equipped to spot the signs of EBSA in their students and arm themselves with effective intervention strategies.
Participants will also become familiar with the various manifestations of EBSA, which can range from sporadic absences to complete school refusal. Through engaging case studies and real-life scenarios, you’ll gain practical insights into recognising and addressing these behaviours in the school setting, as well as understanding the academic and social impacts on students affected by EBSA.
A significant part of our focus will be on intervention strategies and the support systems that can be woven into school life. You’ll learn about evidence-based practices for aiding students in their reintegration journey. We’ll also stress the necessity of nurturing a positive school culture that champions mental health awareness.
Finally, we’ll touch upon the legislative and policy frameworks that govern school attendance and emotional wellbeing, empowering educators to meet their responsibilities while advocating for students hesitant to attend. By ensuring a welcoming educational environment that caters to diverse needs, this course lays the groundwork for achieving inclusivity and understanding.
