Presenter Profile

Erica Sánchez is Head of Languages at a secondary school in Barnsley and the founder of Spanish & Umbrellas, where she supports language teachers across the UK through CPD, one-to-one mentoring, workshops, and high-quality classroom resources.
She is passionate about developing teachers and helping them grow in confidence, subject knowledge, and classroom practice. As a mentor and line manager, she has supported trainee, early career, and experienced teachers, helping them develop professionally and thrive in their roles. In the classroom, she believes that positive relationships are the foundation of successful learning and is committed to helping every student develop the confidence, resilience, and ambition to achieve their full potential.
Erica qualified as a teacher at the University of Reading in 2015 and has taught Spanish, French, and German, including A-level Spanish. She became Head of Languages in 2024, having previously served as Second in Department since 2017.
She holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Granada, completed the NPQ in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD), and has worked as a BBC GCSE educational consultant. Erica has also worked as an examiner for AQA and Pearson Edexcel and has delivered CPD for organisations including Linguascope, Languagenut, Harris Academies, Discovery the World Education, the University of Sheffield, Network for Learning, and The Language Show.
